From Jen Hubley, your About Today Editor
New Year's Eve is in a few hours, and I've just realized that I have nothing to wear. This happens every year. Despite the fact that I continue to buy outfits, I still have nothing to put on come party time.

Dressing for Special Occasions
My theory is that my closet is actually eating my clothes. Not all of them, mind you. Just the cute ones.

10 Ways to Sex up (Not Sleaze up!) Your Look
The paint-stained sweatpants from college are still there, as is everything that fit when I was smaller or larger than I am now.

Best Dressy Holiday Looks
It's cute clothes in my current size, appropriate to the occasion but not too revealing, that I seem to be missing.
See More About:  cocktail attire  formal dresses

What to Wear to Parties
The good news is that this gives me an excuse to go out and buy something new. After all, some cultures believe that it's essential to start out the new year with new clothes. Who am I to say any different?

Fun Places To Go

From Teresa Plowright, your Guide to Family Vacations
Best wishes to all for a Happy New Year and wonderful 2011. There's still one big event in 2010 to enjoy, so here's a reminder about the many "First Night" and other family-friendly New Year's Eve festivities that may be happening near you, whether you're spending the holidays at your home-base or traveling.

Family New Year's Eve
More and more destinations offer family-friendly New Year's Eve events. Panama City Beach has a giant "Beach Ball Drop" while in Hershey PA, a crowd counts down as a giant Hershey Kiss gets raised... And then there are the many towns that put on "First Night" events, with dozens of live performances by musicians, dancers, storytellers, acrobats... Often, fireworks end the night. First Nights are designed to be family-friendly and affordable.

Spring Break Ideas
Yes, it's time to start thinking about family spring break getaways. Check out fifteen popular destinations and getaway ideas: Orlando, other Florida, Washington DC, California, ranch resorts, ski destinations, and more.

Alternatives to Spring Break
Much as families love their spring break getaways, an argument can be made for taking your family trip at a time that's not during those crowded weeks in March and April. Have a look at some alternative opportunities for family getaways.

Mountain Coasters at Ski Resorts
Every year seems to bring something new at ski resorts that the non-skiers in the family can enjoy. Of course, skiers and snowboarders are also welcome to have fun on the mountain coasters that are now offered at several ski resorts. As an example: the "Timber Ripper" coaster at Okemo ski resort rushes down the mountain on 3100 feet of track, and can reach speeds of 25 mph-- or not. Riders can control the speed of the car. Phew.

About Today: 6 Ways to Recycle a Christmas Tree

If you can't see this email, click here

About.com

From Jen Hubley, your About Today Editor
My husband and I are suckers, which is why we tend to buy the saddest Christmas tree on the lot and decorate it as if it were the White House fir. This makes us feel like we're really getting into the spirit of the season, at least until Christmas passes and our sad little Charlie Brown tree disintegrates in its stand.

6 Ways to Recycle Your Christmas Tree
At least this makes recycling easier. Pretty much, we just need to sweep the remains into an envelope and mail it to the recycling center. Easy-peasy!

10 Ideas for Recycling Christmas Trees
If you've got a larger and less waif-like tree, you'll need more than a dust pan to help you dispose of your tree.

How to Recycle Your Christmas Tree in the Garden
I love the idea of using the tree in the yard somehow, either as compost...

5 Ways to Recycle Christmas Trees for the Birds
...or as a bird feeder. Depending on how big your tree is, you could feed pterodactyls with that thing. (Please note: Pterodactyls are harder to come by than Christmas trees.)
